Stratford resident Matthew Petrovitch has been sentenced to 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally possessing guns and ammunition, John Durham, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced this week.
On Sept. 26 last year, police in Stratford were dispatched to Petrovitch’s home when a woman reported that he had physically assaulted her and threatened her with a gun while she was holding a child.
Petrovitch was taken into custody by police and a search of his home led to the seizure of an AK-47 semiautomatic rifle, a short-barreled shotgun and more than 350 rounds of ammunition. The shotgun was not registered to the 38-year-old Petrovitch.
Durham noted that Petrovitch was convicted in court of conspiracy to commit assault and robbery in 2000. On May 8, Petrovitch pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.
